Do you know what your child is eating?
If you follow me on other social media sites you know that my latest craze is pureeing my own baby food.
Today we tried real bananas after Dolan has been eating Gerber’s puréed version while we puréed only veggies. I got 5 bananas for 1.44 and one banana makes about 3 servings. That makes each serving only about .10 cents!! Obviously the healthier option as well. I was looking at the back of Gerber’s puréed mix and there’s so many additives including lots of added sodium (sugar). I feel so much better about him eating fresh fruits and veggies!
The other day I got peas for .78 cents and it made 5 servings! That makes the servings .15 cents a piece compared to 1.00 or 1.40.
I wanted to share and spread for those who don’t know how much better it is for your little cutie to go the fresh route. It’s so easy too! I use a Magic Bullet that we recieved as a wedding gift years ago. Your biggest investment would be to buy some sort of mixer or blender. It is well worth it.
The other thing I hate about processed baby food is that it doesn’t even taste like the real thing. Have you tasted what your baby is eating? I have! And it’s all super sweet from all the added sugar.
It’s very easy to purée your own baby food, Dolan’s doctor has given us the o.k to use water instead of breastmilk for the pureeing. Most recipes call for added breastmilk no matter what you purée, but we just use water.
If you don’t purée your own, I am in no way calling you a bad mom. You have to do what’s best for you and your child and you’re the only one that can make that call. But, Gerber’s organic purée mix is a lot better than the standard. I think I saw that it’s only 5mg of sodium compared to like 140mg in the regular mix.
My next step is going organic with the fresh veggies and fruits. Our local store doesn’t carry a lot of that so I will need to go stock up elsewhere. But so far so good with pureeing! Dolan is happy with it (he would eat anything though) but most of all, I am very happy knowing what my child is eating. I always want the best for him.
P.s. There are tons of recipes on Pinterest!
I’ve had a pretty productive weekend thus far. Everyone’s laundry is clean, getting the house ready for some out of town guests next weekend and went on an hour long power walk yesterday with Dolan in jogging stroller.
I think I am beginning to feel the muscles in my shins freaking out like “what the hell is this exercise you’re making us do!?” But it was a good work out. The kind where you feel great after. I can’t wait to be out walking everyday. Soon I hope! While I was out walking I heard a man shout something that I didn’t understand at all, and then I heard a little girl shout “hey big booty Judy” and I couldn’t help but laugh. Thank you whomever you are. I enjoy my big booty as does my husband. Haha.
Grocery shopping is done for next week, I got up early this morning to go. There’s nothing worse than going to the store hungry when there’s 11,000 other people there. I hope this doesn’t make me a middle aged woman…
I’ve been watching the show extreme couponing and it’s been making me want to do it. Obviously I don’t want or need a crazy “stock pile” like they have. They rack up a $400 or even $800 grocery bill and get it down to forty dollars and one the other day had the store paying her back .31c of a $800 grocery bill. I would be too embarrassed to do something like that. Maybe I would if I had a huge family, but even then I doubt it. I have been looking for coupons though. I’ve saved quite a bit of money recently by finding coupons online and in ads. Since I’m not working it gives me a sense of being.
I got my 800 photos off of my iPhone and onto the cloud as well as my computer and also backed up on discs. Lol My brother says I’m paranoid but I couldn’t imagine losing the pictures of Dolan’s precious moments of his life thus far. My next step is to get them into photo albums to show his girlfriends when he’s older. I’ve been a busy mommy.
We’ve been trying new things for dinner at a success. Asian cusine, chicken fajitas, smoked sausage and jambalaya rice. So good!
I don’t think the weather will be nice enough to take Dolan out again until Monday. I hope I can wait that long!
Sitting here with my boys, not much has been happening lately. We love our family time. We know that no matter what happens we will always have each other.
A month from today we will be married for three years and together for five. It’s so SO hard to believe. We’ve been through a lot together, lived in several cities, several houses and have finally figured out where we belong. We finally feel at home and content with everything in our lives.
In the past, partying was what made us so happy. And when I say partying, I mean hanging out with a few cool people at someone’s house playing cards or sitting around a bonfire. Yes that is still very fun but now our fun is spending time together as a family. We love our little boy so much, there’s no words to explain it.
He’s teething now so even moments that Dave and I get alone are not taken lightly. It’s a daily even weekly thing to ensure you get alone time with your spouse. It’s crucial.
Walking Dead is on! Sorry this one is a short one.
